BARTOM TREES

The massive Bartom Trees are unique to the Circle and only grow where the druids plant them.

They can reach heights of 300 feet and spread their branches twice as far, forming huge canopies under (and inside of) which whole ecosystems can form.

The trees are former druids. To become a Bartom requires a druid to expend the last of their energies, completely emptying themselves, to essentially polymorph into a tree. That tree is imbued with their connection to Ignus’s magic which allows it to grow to massive sizes.

The Bartom Trees retain a semblance of their previous sentience but it’s… slower. They think on the time scale of trees.

All Bartom Trees are connected to all other Bartom Trees. They commune with each other constantly via an unheard and unsung song.

Bartom Trees sense the world primarily through their root systems which they use to keep watch and protect their communities.

Bartom Trees are magical and are able to effect the world around them, creating environments that foster life… or take it. They also have several spells that are innate to them, the most useful being Transport via Plants which is one of the reasons that every Circle Outpost has a Bartom Tree.

NOTABLE BARTOM TREES

The Bartom in Suggbury Outpost is about 100 feet tall, its trunk is 30 feet across, and its branches stretch a solid 100 feet in every direction. Its boughs are so massive that most of the residents (except you) make their home within its leaves.

There is a Bartom stump deep in the Sunderwood forest to the west of Suggbury. It stands where there was once a Circle outpost but the tree was beheaded in some sort of arcane incident during the destruction. The tree lives… sort of. But it’s a half-existence filled with loss and sorrow. The forest around the massive stump protects and feeds it since it can no longer photosynthesize for itself.
